I own a 1986 Volkswagon Vanagon GL Westfalia camper bus. This is the full camper with a stove and refridgerator.
I have purchased a new car (Honda Element EX) and this one, while I love it, requires more tender loving care than I want to do. More specifically, it cannot pass California smog requirements in one category - although it is close. When I took it to my excellent mechanic he ran a compression test on it and said that the #3 Cylinder is at less than 50% compression. This will require at least a ring and gasket job.
However, the engine has a lot of miles on it and while in good shape I would recommend an overhaul or replacement, possibly with a Suburu engine.
The previous owner was California Campers. There have been no wrecks or accidents that I know of. One of the previous owners might have done an illegal odometer rollback, breaking the odometer in the process. The odometer says 86,000 miles. I estimate more like 120,000 miles on it.
I am asking $1200 for the Vanagon. I reside in Sacramento, California. I would be happy to pick up any distant buyer at our local airport if needed. The Vanagon is running well and should be able to make a long journey if you take it easy on her.
